Our Central Avenue location provides shelter for two different groups: women and women with children, and youth of all genders. The shelter is staffed twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to support residents and assist them with planning for the future.

Upstairs at Central Avenue houses women, women with children, and female youth; downstairs is where the male youth reside. The facilities on each floor of Central Avenue include shared kitchens, shared laundry, shared, private showers, and a bedroom that may be shared with a resident’s own children or an assigned roommate. All residents are provided with secured medication storage and tracking to ensure proper medication distribution.

Residents can expect programming that is LGBTQ2S-sensitive and culturally-sensitive, referrals to community agencies, referrals for addictions and trauma counselling, assistance with resumes and job searches, and one-on-one intake and planning sessions with our staff.

Crisis Shelter

The Crisis Shelter gives women and women with children a place to escape trauma and take the time they need to re-orient themselves and plan for the future. Residents are provided with resources and referrals to find counselling, a new home, security, and more.

Transitional Shelter

Women who arrive in crisis may find that they need more time in a supportive, secure environment to transition to a new home. We offer women up to three months to remain in our shelter to make arrangements. Longer stays may be considered in certain circumstances.

Youth Shelter

Open to all genders, the Youth Program at Central Avenue provides both crisis and long-term placement for ages sixteen to eighteen (sometimes up to twenty-one). While residing here youth have access to several services including meals, cultural activities, recreation, youth-centered activities, life skills, and twenty-four-hour support.

Youth may self-refer in crisis but are generally referred through the Ministry of Social Services, the Young Offenders Program or ICFS. Please contact the main office at 306-763-8571 if you are calling from an agency to refer a youth.
