As part of YWCA Canada’s commitment to violence prevention initiatives for girls and young women, Power of Being a Girl™ is a signature leadership conference for girls ages 12-14, hosted during YWCA’s Week Without Violence™ each year during the third week of October. This unique program responds to individual community needs and is coordinated by local YWCA Member Associations. Power of Being a Girl™ offers a day of fun in a safe and moderated environment with informative and educational programming on a variety of topics which focus on girls' developmental needs to prevent violence in their lives while encouraging leadership in the planning and organization of the event. Workshops focus on a variety of issues including self-esteem, healthy relationships, dating, discrimination, body image, sexual health, bullying and Internet safety, among others. Girls leave the conference excited about what they learned, anxious to share with their friends and show an interest in attending other YWCA programs.
Taking after its sister program, Power of Being a Girl, the YWCA Prince Albert is also pleased to present the first annual Strength in Being a Boy Conference. This conference will offer workshops to boys aged 12 - 14 at no cost. Lunch and snacks will be provided.
